Information about case numbering in the Costs Assessment Scheme

JusticeLink is a new software system that has been introduced into the Costs Assessment Scheme to provide both users and courts with improved case tracking and client service capabilities

A key advantage conferred by the new JusticeLink system is an effective case and document tracking ability. This is achieved by allocating a unique case number to a case for its entire life – a number that is retained when a case is transferred between jurisdictions or if it undergoes appeal. This offers considerable benefits by removing the need to provide additional numbers to a case for transfers or appeals. As new documents are filed for a case it will also be tagged with the new case number.

Existing cases were issued new case numbers when they were created on the new JusticeLink system.

Registry staff will be available to assist clients to ascertain the new JusticeLink case number when it is moved to the new system. Due to the large number of existing cases, it is not possible to contact clients individually to inform them of their new JusticeLink case numbers.

To confirm your new case tracking number:

1 Call the Costs Assessment Scheme on 9230 8636
2 Tell the Costs Assessment staff member that you wish to find out your new case tracking number
3 Once prompted, provide the Costs Assessment staff member with the parties involved in the application
4 The Costs Assessment staff member will search for your application and provide you with the new case tracking number that you may use to refer to your application in the future.
