CLOSURE OF LAW COURTS BUILDING: ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPDATES

Date:
10/30/2017

This message was released at 3.10pm on Friday 10 November 2017

The Chief Justice of NSW, the Hon TF Bathurst AC, advises the Law Courts Building will be open to the public from 8.00 AM on Wednesday, 15 November 2017.

Please consult the published court lists available from the Court's website for court locations.

Requests to access files and exhibits

The registry will process requests to access files and exhibits for matters that are of relative urgency, for example, matters with hearing dates or orders that must be complied with in the next seven days.

In order to make the request, an email must be addressed to the Prothonotary of the Court and sent to sc.enquiries@justice.nsw.gov.au . The Prothonotary will assess the urgency of the request and if deemed urgent, will arrange access to the material at the King Street Court Complex.

    The Subpoena List

As from Wednesday 8 November 2017 the Subpoena List will operate from 3.00pm instead of the usual 9am. Please see the court lists for details.

This message was released at 4.30pm on Wednesday 01 November 2017

The Law Courts at Queens Square will be closed to the judiciary, the profession and the public until at least 14 November 2017.

This is as a result of a burst water pipe between levels six and seven, and the consequential damage.

The building closure will enable necessary repairs and testing to the hydraulic system to be carried out as well as structural repairs to the roof on level 3 (the public foyer).

The Court regrets the unavoidable inconvenience which will be caused. However, it is hoped that the Court will be able to dispose of the matters listed utilising its King Street, Hospital Road and Darlinghurst courts as well as courts previously occupied by the Industrial Relations Commission and courts generously made available by the Land and Environment Court.

Practitioners and members of the public are urged to consult the Court’s website to see where cases are listed.

Limited registry services will be available to the public as listed in the message below posted at 3.15pm on 1 November.

Practitioners, however, are urged to utilise the Court’s electronic filing system wherever possible.
