The Chief Justice, the Honourable T F Bathurst AC, re-issued Practice Note SC CL 2 on 27 June 2014. The Practice Note replaces former Practice Note SC CL 2, which was issued on 20 September 2013 and commenced on 1 October 2013.

The re-issued version commences on 1 July 2014.

It applies to committals for trial or sentence and ex-officio indictments in the Criminal List of the Common Law Division.

The purpose of this Practice Note is:

(a) to ensure that criminal proceedings are dealt with in a timely and efficient way, consistent with the parties’ obligations under Chapter 3, Part 3 of the Criminal Procedure Act 1986; and,

(b) to assist an accused person to take advantage of legislation which provides for a discount in sentence where an early plea of guilty is entered.
