ARWs - Frequently Asked Questions - Costs and Disbursements

Who will pay for the ARW report?

We will pay the ARW directly for the report, provided we have given our approval in writing before you made the appointment to see the ARW. The cost of the report is deducted from the total allowed for disbursements when your claim is finally determined. The ARW should not ask for payment from either you or your solicitor.



How much does the ARW report cost?

The cost of the ARW report is $550 (inclusive of GST).



What are disbursements?

Disbursements are extra amounts that may be paid at the time your application for compensation is finalised. Disbursements may include the cost of:

  • The ARW report;
  • Any medical reports you provide;
  • Travel expenses or interpreter fees incurred in the preparation of these reports; and
  • Any other reasonable expenses you have had to pay in connection with lodging your application.

How much am I allowed for disbursements?

The maximum allowed for disbursements is $1,100 (inclusive of GST).

This means if you have an ARW report then you will only be able to claim a further $550 (inclusive of GST) for disbursements.


Can I claim for the cost of travelling to the ARW appointment?

Yes, can may make a claim for travel expenses to the ARW appointment as part of your disbursements. You should provide documentation to support your claim, such as receipts or a signed statement. The compensation assessor will consider these at the time of determination of your application for compensation. We will not pay for travel expenses at the time of the ARW report.



Can I claim the cost of an interpreter?

Yes, you can make a claim for interpreter’s fees as part of your disbursements. You should provide documentation to support your claim, such as receipts or invoices. We will not pay for interpreters at the time of the ARW report.

We can provide information about available interpreting services in NSW but you will need to organise the interpreter to attend the ARW appointment. You can phone Translating and Interpreting Services on 131 450 for more information.



Can I claim for the cost of a missed appointment?

No, we will not pay for any charges for missed appointments. If you miss an appointment, you should contact the ARW and discuss the matter with them.
