Welcome to the Victims Services website

Victims Services is part of the NSW Attorney General's Department and consists of the Victims Compensation Tribunal, the Victims of Crime Bureau and the Families and Friends of Missing Persons Unit. The three units work together with the Victims Advisory Board to help victims of crime in New South Wales access services and entitlements to assist in their recovery. More about Victims Services>>

New Website for Victims of Sexual Assault
Information to help victims of sexual assault better understand the justice system and so encourage them to report sexual offences to police, is available at a new website www.sexualassault.nsw.gov.au. The site explains what happens from the point of reporting, including how the police investigate and collect evidence, services that provide support to victims, and the court process. The NSW Attorney General John Hatzistergos has issued a media release about the new site.

Other helpful government websites for victims of crime
Courtwise website gives victims, who may also be witnesses, and their support workers, a range of information using the theme of a pathway. There is a tour of a typical courtroom; information relevant to when a person first becomes a victim; the investigation process; and what happens before, during and after court. www.courtwise.nsw.gov.au
Victims of Crime website gives practical support and information and links to people who can help victims of crime. Areas covered include safety, road trauma, court processes, victim impact statements, dealing with the media, victims registers, and support for victims outside NSW. www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/voc
