Welcome to the Victims Services website

Victims Services is part of the Department of Justice and Attorney General and consists of the Victims Compensation Tribunal, the Victims of Crime Bureau and the Families and Friends of Missing Persons Unit. The three units work together with the Victims Advisory Board to help victims of crime in New South Wales access services and entitlements to assist in their recovery. More about Victims Services>>

Online Application Form
A new interactive online application form is now available. One form can be used to apply for compensation, initial 2 hours counselling and/or prescribed expenses under the Victim Assistance Scheme. Applicants can complete the form online or offline and submit when they are ready to complete. The application process has been simplified and only those parts of the form that relate to the applicant's personal circumstances will need to be completed. To apply online go to to How to Apply.

2009/2010 Victims of Violent Crime Grants Program
Applications for funding under the 2009/2010 Victims of Violent Crime Grants Program are invited from eligible incorporated, non-profit, community-based organisations that provide services to victims of violent crime. A maximum funding allocation of $15,000 per organisation is currently available for non-recurrent projects and resources. Application forms can be downloaded via the Department of Corrective Service’s website. Applications close 3pm, Wednesday 25th November 2009. Application Form (Word 313 Kb)

Other helpful government websites for victims of crime
Courtwise website (www.courtwise.nsw.gov.au) gives victims, who may also be witnesses, and their support workers, a range of information using the theme of a pathway. There is a tour of a typical courtroom; information relevant to when a person first becomes a victim; the investigation process; and what happens before, during and after court.
Sexual assault website (www.sexualassault.nsw.gov.au) has information to help victims of sexual assault better understand the justice system. The website explains what happens from the point of reporting, including how the police investigate and collect evidence, services that provide support to victims, and the court process.
Victims of Crime website (www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/voc) gives practical support and information and links to people who can help victims of crime. Areas covered include safety, road trauma, court processes, victim impact statements, dealing with the media, victims registers, and support for victims outside NSW.
