Helpline glossary

1800 numbers
Callers from outside the Sydney Metropolitan area should use the 1800 numbers. Callers to an 1800 number are not charged a connection fee from a domestic fixed line. Calls from a mobile phone may incur charges depending on the provider.
1300 numbers
Calls to these numbers can be called at local call rates regardless of location in NSW.
Translating and Interpreting Service logo TIS - Translating and Interpreting Service
If you do not speak English well, you can call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450 (24/7). State what language you speak. The operator will connect you to an interpreter who speaks your language. The TIS will organise for an interpreter in your language to be on the phone when you contact the helpline you need.
Persons with a hearing or speech impairment
TTY logo TTY - Telephone Typewriter - a number for use by persons with a TTY machine.
National Relay Service logo NRS -
National Relay Service - a service provided for people who are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment. It is also available to anyone who wants to call a person with such an impairment.

If you have a hearing impairment and also need an interpreter, you can contact the National Relay Service who will call the Telephone Interpreting Service (TIS) on your behalf. Phone 13 36 77 or 1800 555 677 tollfree
