Compensable injury

To claim compensation, you have to prove that you have received a compensable injury from the act of violence. The compensable injuries are found in a list called the Schedule of Injuries.

You can calculate the compensation you may receive for your injuries and check if your injuries meet the minimum threshold for an award. There are also case studies that show you how compensation is calculated.

NOTE: Family members of homicide victims do not need to establish injury to claim compensation.

There is further information about claiming injuries for victims of domestic violence and victims of sexual assault.

If you are claiming psychological or psychiatric disorder you will need a report from an Authorised Report Writer (ARW).

For other compensable injuries, you should provide medico-legal reports, hospital records, x-ray results or other documents demonstrating that you have received the injury such as photographs of scarring. Medico-legal reports should be written by a professional who is qualified to make the particular diagnosis. Payment for the reports will be considered by the Assessor at the time of the determination (decision) of your application.
