New Zealand

Victim Support - Manaaki Tangata - provides 24 hour emotional support, personal advocacy and information to all people affected by crime and trauma throughout New Zealand. Phone toll free: 0800 VICTIM (0800 842846) or visit the website to find the nearest victim support group.

Victims Notification Register (Department of Corrections) website has information on:

    • Eligibility
    • Process and assistance in applying
    • Information provided by Department of Corrections
    • Information provided by the New Zealand Parole Board

The Child Youth and Family Department has information on its website on child abuse. If you suspect a child is being abused phone 0508 FAMILY (0508 326 459) or the Police.

United Kingdom

The Home Office website has information for victims of crime including:

    • Victims Virtual Walkthrough - an interactive virtual tour to provide information about the criminal justice system process as it relates to victims of crime

    • Restorative Justice
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority website gives information to victims of violent crime about compensation including:
    • who is eligible
    • how to apply
    • how claims are processed.
Victims Support is an independent charity assisting people cope with the effects of a crime. The website is divided into England and Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Scotland sites.

Scotland

Victims of Crime in Scotland, a website of the Scottish Executive, provides help and advice for victims of crime. The website gives information about what happens when you report a crime, what happens after you report a crime and links to additional agencies providing support, such as the Victims Support Scotland, the lead voluntary organisation in Scotland assisting victims of crime.

United States of America

The Office for Victims of Crime was established by the 1984 Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) to oversee diverse programs that benefit victims of crime. Information on the website includes:

    • Factsheets (eg What You Can Do If You Are a Victim of Crime)
    • Directory of Crime Victim Services - you can search for help according to location, type of victimization, service needed or agency type
    • Victims of Crime Act Crime Victims Fund
The National Center for Victims of Crime provides assistance and information for victims of crime. The Resource Library provides links to many government and non government organisations assisting victims including the Attorney General websites of each state, and assistance for sexual assault victims, homicide survivors, domestic abuse and violence against women.

New York State Victims of Crime Board provides financial assistance to eligible victims of crime.

Canada - Ontario

The Ministry of the Attorney General website has information for victims of crime in Ontario, including:

Canada - Alberta

Solicitor General and Public Security website has information for victims of crime in Alberta, including:

Canada - Saskatchewan

Victims Services, Saskatchewan Justice - Saskatchewan Royal Canadian Mounted Police work with Saskatchewan Justice to provide services to victims of crime. Most areas of the province are covered by police-affiliated victims services programs. Programs of Victims Services:

    • Crisis Intervention
    Victims Services workers help to meet the immediate needs of victims of crime for timely information, support and referral.
    • Victim/Witness Services
    Victims Services provides court orientation and supports victims and witnesses during their involvement with the criminal justice system.
    • Compensation
    Victims Services provides payment for reasonable expenses resulting from a criminal act of personal violence.
    • Education and Training
    The Victims Services Program undertakes activities to educate the public and professionals about the needs of victims and how to respond in a helpful and compassionate way.
