Local Domestic Violence Committee Grants
Local Domestic Violence Committees may apply for a grant of $600 to assist them in their work of raising awareness and prevention of domestic violence.
Background
The Government has recently asked that a review of existing structures responsible for co-ordinating domestic and family violence and violence against women initiatives be undertaken to inform the optimal way to meet its commitments in this area.
The Local Domestic Violence Committee (LDVC) Grant Program was initially included in this process. However, further consideration has now been given to the fact that many LDVCs are reliant on this small grant to assist them during the NSW 16 Days of Activism to Stop Violence Against Women campaign. In recognition of the valuable contribution made by LDVCs, the NSW Government would like to re-open the Grant Program.
The Violence Against Women Specialist Unit (VAWSU), Communities Division, Department of Community Services will be responsible for managing the 2007-2008 LDVC Grant Program. In order to expedite the process, LDVC recipients from 2006-2007 will receive advice by email advising them of the process required to qualify for the annual $600. The VAWSU will also circulate information to the Senior Regional Strategies Officers Violence Prevention for distribution to local and regional groups to ensure that all Committees have access to Grant Program information and understand the new process.
