Understanding the Legal System

The criminal justice system response to domestic violence is complex, involving both civil and criminal processes and a number of agencies. These responses require effective working relationships and a high level of co-operation and co-ordination between a range of agencies at each step of the numerous processes. The Guidelines which are endorsed and followed by each criminal justice system agency provides a mechanism to enable better co-ordination and therefore enhance the effectiveness of both the ADVO Scheme and the criminal process.
