The OLSC undertakes research and makes recommendations with respect to regulation of the legal profession in NSW.

OLSC submission to the National Legal Profession Reform Project, 13 August 2010
A project to harmonise legal regulation across Australia is currently being undertaken by the Council of Australian Governments. In April 2009 COAG established a Taskforce and a Consultative Group to achieve this goal. The Taskforce was charged with the role of developing draft legislation to facilitate uniformity. The Consultative Group was established to advise and assist the taskforce. On 14 May 2010 the Taskforce release a National Legal Reform Conulstation package. The package included a draft Legal Profession National Law, draft Legal Profession National Rules, a Consultation Regulatioon Impact Statement and a Consultation Report. A public consultation period ran from 14 May 2010 to 13 August 2010. The OLSC made a submission to the National Legal Profession Reform Project.Our submission supports the path taken to achieve the harmonisation of legal practitioner regulation across Australia.
