Payments

If you are not being paid a normal wage during your jury service you are entitled to receive a jury attendance fee.

For those jurors eligible, payment is made on a scale that increases after day 5 and day 10 of the trial. This is shown below:

Jurors who are not being paid wages are paid:

  • for less than 4 hours attendance and not selected on the first day NIL
  • for less than 4 hours and selected on the first day $44.00
  • for more than 4 hours on the first day $88.40
  • 2nd to 5th day $88.40
  • 6th to 10th day $102.60
  • 11th day and subsequent days $119.70

Jurors can be paid either by cheque or straight into their bank account by electronic fund transfer.
To receive this fee, you must fill out a Statutory Declaration that you can get at the Court. This will state that you are not receiving your normal wage while on jury service, or that you are unemployed.

All jurors who attend and are not excused are entitled to a travel allowance that is based on the distance between the courthouse and your address (that appears on your summons). The allowance covers a return journey at the rate of 29.60c per kilometre. The minimum payment is $4.00 each way and the maximum payment is $29.60 each way.

If your jury service requires you to be present over lunch and you are not provided with a meal, an allowance of $6.50 will be paid to you.
