Telephone Callover

Introduction
The Land and Environment Court has a dedicated telephone conference call facility used principally for call overs before the Registrar where the parties or their representatives are from outside of the Sydney area.
In addition to the telephone call over process, the facility has also been used by judges and commissioners of the Court to:
- deal with urgent interlocutory applications;
- to deal with consent orders where the parties and practitioners are in rural NSW;
- to conduct judge call overs, mentions and directions hearings.
The telephone callover list
All matters outside the Sydney region are placed in the telephone callover list. Telephone callovers take place every Monday, and at other times by special arrangement. Matters in the telephone callover list may move to the Sydney callover list by consent, or at the direction of the Registrar.
Directions and orders which may be obtained by telephone callover:
- adjournments
- directions
- hearing dates
- notices of motion
How does telephone callover work?
- When an application is filed with the Court, a telephone callover date and time will be noted on the documents to be served;
- Just prior to the appointed time the parties dial into the telephone callover. The dial in number for all parties is 02 8295 0923.
- The operator will welcome the parties and request their names, telephone numbers and the conference Registrar’s name. The parties will be placed on hold with music playing until connected;
- Once connected the Registrar will deal with the matter in a three-way conference call (unless one party mentions the matter for another party) and make directions/ orders. On each occasion before speaking parties are to identify themselves;
- At the end of the conference call the parties will hang up.
Telephone callover can still be used where one party appears in person.
Can I get a transcript of the telephone callover?
The conference will be taped and a copy of the tape sent to the Court by conference call provider. Copies of the tape may be purchased from the Court.
How much does it cost to participate in telephone callover?
The cost to parties participating in telephone callover is:
- Total Price $0.44 per minute / per link ($0.40 + $0.04 GST) for the duration of the conference;
- Plus the cost of the call to the ‘02’ number. This could involve local, SDT or IDD call charges depending on the location of the party dialling in.
These charges will be billed to parties’ nominated Australian fixed telephone number.
