Witness Information - Payment

Witnesses in Civil Cases

It is the responsibility of the party requiring your attendence at court to cover your expenses and lost income. You should make suitable arrangements in this regard directly with that party.

Witnesses for the Defence in Criminal Cases

It is the responsibility of the defence to reimburse the witnesses they call and you should make arrangements directly with that party.

Witnesses for the Prosecution in Criminal Cases

The State provides funding to reimburse witnesses called by the Office of the Director for Public Prosecution and there is a prescribed scale for the payment of these expenses. Claim forms may be obtained from the Registry, but you will need to ensure that it is certified by the prosecuting officer prior to lodging the claim with the Registry for payment.
