Applying for reappointment as a JP

  • If you have a current appointment as a JP in NSW, the Department of Justice and Attorney General will email or write to you at least three months before the expiry of your five year term, to remind you to apply for reappointment.
  • To apply for reappointment, you will need to complete and return the application form which will be emailed or posted to you.
  • The application form must be returned to the Department of Justice and Attorney General before the expiry date of your current term, or your appointment will automatically lapse.
  • The form requires you to update your contact details and confirm that you continue to meet the eligibility requirements for appointment as a JP. It does not require you to be nominated for reappointment by a Member of Parliament or to provide further character references.
  • JPs who have internet access have the option of applying for reappointment using the online application form. The online form is only available to JPs whose terms expire within the next 12 months.
