Employment Law
The Employment Law Practice Group is uniquely placed to provide independent and authoritative legal services to the NSW Government. Our experience is gained from our close involvement in numerous significant developments in public sector employment law, such as amendments to the Public Sector Employment and Management Act 2002 in response to the Commonwealth “Work Choices” legislation, responding to the Fair Work Bill and assisting in the implementation of the NSW Government’s Wages Policy and public sector reforms. Employment Law solicitors have wide-ranging expertise in proceedings involving industrial relations including award applications, test cases as well as unfair dismissal, unfair contract and discipline. The Practice Group also acts for agencies in inquests involving workplace deaths, OH&S prosecutions, and discrimination complaints and provides dispute resolution services including informal discussion, mediation and facilitation. They provide accurate, practical advice not only in the context of litigation but also to assist Government in applying statute law and implementing policy decisions.
You will have access to a Practice Group of experienced lawyers each of whom specialises in public sector law. You will also benefit from free educational seminars and access to our client newsletter outlining updates and recent decisions in employment law.
Their achievements include numerous successful outcomes for the State. A number of claims have been settled on positive terms using techniques including direct negotiation, mediation and settlement conferences, as well as applications to the Court for further conciliation and mediation.
