NSW Government Research
'You shouldn't have to hide to be safe' is a research report launched in December 2003 about homophobic violence in NSW. Understanding your legal rights - website
The Acts of Passion campaign, launched in November 2000, is a collaborative project to raise awareness and educate lesbians and gay men throughout NSW about the new rights and responsibilities associated with the Property (Relationships) Legislation Amendment Act 1999. Key community organisations - the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, Inner City Legal Centre, AIDS Council of NSW - have partnered up with the Department and NSW Young Lawyers to plan and deliver a campaign that will meet the specific needs of the gay and lesbian community in regional and rural NSW as well as in Sydney.

GLBT Policy Officer
In 1999 a policy and liaision officer was employed by the Crime Prevention Division to work with community organisations and government agencies to help reduce the level and impact of homophobic violence and to facilitate service improvement to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. This officer is also concerned with improving access to the legal and justice systems by these communities, including community education about legal rights.
Consultation is ongoing to ensure that the Department's work remains consistent with community views and priorities. A community based Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Advisory Committee meets quarterly with the Department to assist in this process.
