About Us

Located in Sydney, the Children's Court Clinic consists of a small unit of staff who are responsible for managing the statewide service, and also some employed expert clinicans who conduct assessments.

In addition to this core team, the clinic employs, on a contractual basis, a number of accredited clinicians located across NSW. Known as 'Authorised Clinicians', they provide independent assessments for Children's and District Courts.

Magistrates and judges make assessment orders to the clinic when they require expert assessments in relation to particular cases. The clinic then refers the matter to the most appropriate Authorised Clinician, based on the specific expertise required and the geographical location of the client/s. The Authorised Clinician undertakes the assessment and writes a report which is then sent to the court as an independent assessment to help the magistrate or judge make a decision in the best interests of the subject child or children.
