Visiting the Supreme Court
Location
The Supreme Court Registry in New South Wales is located on Levels 4 and 5 of the Law Courts Building at 184 Phillip Street (also referred to as Queens Square), Sydney. Courtrooms are located from Level 7 to Level 13. There are entrances to the building on Philip Street and Macquarie Streets. The building is shared with the Federal Court and the Sydney Registry of the High Court of Australia.
In Sydney, the Supreme Court also sits at:
- St James Road Court, St James Road, Sydney
- King Street Courthouse, Corner King and Elizabeth Streets, Sydney
- Darlinghurst Courthouse, Taylor Square, Sydney
- Wentworth Chambers, 180 Phillip Street, Sydney
Transport and parking
Bus route to the city, Town Hall, Circular Quay or Wynyard will provide convenient access to the Court. Martin Place and St. James train stations provide the closest rail access.
There are parking stations available in Elizabeth and Macquarie Streets and on St Mary's Road.
Designated parking for people with disabilities is located:
1. On Macquarie Street (3 car spaces, no time limit) and opposite the Sydney Eye Hospital,
2. In Phillip Street (2 spaces outside Wentworth Chambers, 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday) and next to the ramp entry to the Law Courts Building.
Other parking station/areas for disabled parking near to the Law Courts Building are:
1. Theatre Royal, MLC Centre, 120 King Street
2. Chifley Tower, 2 Chifley Tower, Hunter Street
3. The Domain, Sir John Young Crescent
4. Rear of Sydney Eye Hospital, Hospital Road
5. Shakespeare Place, off Hospital Road, outside Mitchell library (4 spaces).

Security Procedures
Individuals will be required to walk through a magnetometer. Carried items such as handbags, briefcases, school bags etc will be placed on a conveyor belt and passed through an x-ray machine. Special arrangements will be made for those building users with specific needs, such as those who use wheelchairs or who have pacemakers.
Mobile and camera phones will be allowed into the building, but the use of these phones to make tape recordings or video or photographic images will not be permitted.
Without lawful authority, the following items are not permitted to be brought into the building:
1. Firearms, ammunition and explosives;
2. Bladed implements (including knives, swords, machetes & the like)
3. Tools
4. Studded belts
5. Nail files & scissors
6. Motorcycle helmets
7. Illegal drugs & syringes (without medical authority)
8. Sporting equipment such as baseball & cricket bats
9. Cameras (other than those for personal use)
10. Aerosol cans
We recommend that items brought to the court be kept to an absolute minimum.
Group visits to the Court
The Court can make special arrangements for groups interested in learning more about the Supreme Court. By prior arrangement, the Court's Registrars deliver lecture-style talks, twice a week at 9am, to small groups of no more than 25 people. After the talk, your group is conveyed to a courtroom to observe a Supreme Court Hearing.
If you would like to arrange to bring a group to the Court, please contact the Court for more information and to make a booking. Please note that bookings are essential and availability is limited. To avoid disappointment, it is advisable to book at least six weeks prior to the date of your visit.
