Media Release 1C 15 May 2001 15 May 2001 LAW WEEK 13-19 MAY 2001 - Workshops explain Family Law Workshops dealing with the most commonly asked questions in Family Law will be held for Arabic, Chinese, Spanish and Vietnamese communities in Fairfield on Thursday 17 May 2001. The workshops will provide answers to questions about divorce, child support payments and property settlement as well as issues such as child abduction. Also explained will be the different rights that parents, children and grandparents have by law. Bilingual community workers and interpreters will also attend, as will community health workers, providing information on health issues such as children's welfare, building healthy relationships and family support. Chair of the Ethnic Communities' Council, Salvatore Scevola says Family Law affects many people and involves very emotional issues. "It can be confusing, especially if you are dealing with a new culture, language and legal system. I strongly encourage people to grasp this opportunity to find out more about their rights under Australian law." The workshops will be held on Thursday 17 May 2001 from 1pm until 2.30pm in Fairfield Community Hall at 25 Barbara Street, Fairfield. Free lunch will be provided at 12.30pm and free child care is available.
