Duty Solicitor - Pleas of Guilty

The rostered Duty Solicitor must represent all clients (who qualify for aid) in pleas of guilty that can be dealt with, bail applications, mentions and adjournments (including adjournments of not guilty pleas) and children in care matters. Persons of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent may instruct the rostered Duty Solicitor in preference to the Aboriginal Legal Service.

Retaining a plea
The Commission will not authorise the duty solicitor to retain a plea of guilty on a day on which he/she is not the rostered Duty Solicitor unless exceptional circumstances exist. Prior Approval must be sought
