Looking for a JP?Find a JP in the online Public Register of JPs.

The Public Register of JPs lists all current JPs and is provided to help you locate a JP in your local area. The register can also confirm whether a person has a current appointment.

Justices of the Peace can also be located at most police stations, chemist shops, local council offices, libraries and government agencies. You may also make enquiries with the office of your local State Member of Parliament.

What can a JP do for you?

The functions of a Justice of the Peace under the Justices of the Peace Act 2002, are to:

  • administer oath declarations or affidavits, and taking statutory declarations and affirmations principally under the Oaths Act 1900;
  • witness signatures; and
  • attest and certify documents.

Important Note: A JP must not charge a fee or accept a gift for providing JP services.
