Common Questions
I am no longer residing in NSW. What do I do?
JPs appointed in NSW can only exercise their functions whilst physically present in this State. If you are no longer permanently resident in NSW, you may consider resigning your commission in this State and seeking appointment in your new State/Territory of residence.

I have changed my name. How can I change this on my JP records?
You must send us written advice about your change of name, including a certified photocopy of the change of name document and a document evidencing use of the new name such as a driver’s licence or Medicare card.

How do I witness an affidavit for a person who does not speak English?
When witnessing affidavits made by people who do not speak or read English, JPs must complete the appropriate jurat and affidavit by the interpreter.

I have changed my address. What should I do?
NSW Justices of the Peace are obliged to advise the Attorney General's Department of NSW of any change in their address or contact details, including their email address and telephone number.
You can now update your contact details online. This online service is currently being trialed.
